Intense Pulsed Light Hair Removal

A fast, comfortable and permanent alternative.

IPL Hair Removal - How it Works

Pulses of filtered light are directed onto the skin and absorbed by the hair follicles. Pulsed light systems are similar to lasers, but with a larger, smooth beam, and a long pulse for safe, fast, and comfortable treatments. The Starlux System permanently reduces unwanted hair by targeting the hair follicles. Specific wavelengths of light are absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Treatments Hurt?

Palomar Pulsed Light Systems use a unique long pulsewidth that delivers energy to the skin over a relatively long period of time. This makes the pulses safer and more comfortable. You may experience a feeling similar to that of a rubber band being snapped on the skin, but most people do not report this sensation as painful. You will be able to resume your normal activities immediately following treatment.

Are There Any Adverse Reactions to Treatment?

You may experience temporary redness and a mild "sunburn"- like effect that may last a few hours to a few days.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

You will need to have a series of treatments. The number of treatments will vary depending on the person, the body part being treated, and how much of the hair is in the active phase of growth. Our registered nurse will be able to give you a better assessment after consultation.

Do I need to refrain from using other Methods of Hair Removal Prior to Treatment?

As the hair is better treated in the active stage of the hair's growth cycle, it is very important to avoid any method of depilation such as plucking, waxing, and epilating for 6 weeks prior to your treatment. It is ok to continue with shaving prior to and in between your treatments.

Should I shave the hair before my treatment?

IPL requires that the hair be cleanly shaven prior to treatment. At your initial consultation you will be advised to shave the hair on the morning of your treatment, if you are able.
